This Workshop will focus on teaching the Design Process, targeting students from Years F – 4.
Throughout my own STEM learning journey, I noticed that most P.D opportunities were focused on the 3-6 year levels and as a result, wanted to contribute to the growth and development of junior STEM skills. The aim of teaching these skills explicitly is that students would learn the value of going through the design process (instead of just making something!) and be able to do so independently. This would then allow for greater student autonomy and more accurate reporting on what students can do with minimal support.
Structured in an interactive way, participants in this workshop will experience some hands on activities to engage students in the five sub-strands (Investigating, Generating, Producing, Evaluating, Planning and Management). Tasks will be problem-based, and be explored in small, collaborative groups. The workshop will include digital technology integration to support both the design process and documenting the learning. Participants will have opportunities to share their own ideas and experiences and engage with others about their approaches.
