Matt Smith is the eLearning Coordinator at Melbourne Grammar School’s Grimwade House. Matt is passionate about ICT and Digital Technologies and enjoys the challenge of looking at ways to improve learning for students through embedding engaging technologies into the curriculum. We need to enable our students to think creatively, helping them to understand real world problem areas and then to develop solutions using digital tools. If we want our students to become agents of change in the society of the future, we need to create a curriculum that focuses on thinking and reasoning rather than knowing a certain set of facts. Changes in technology mean that there’s no way we can teach the same content in the technology classroom every year but, importantly, we need to make sure we consistently teach students how to think critically, how to communicate and how to remain flexible in the face of change. Matt has taught across all levels of primary school as an IT specialist and generalist teacher and has taught VCE IT. Matt has a Bachelor of Education (P-12) and completed a Master of Education specialising in Information Technology.
