Today I’d like to focus on some of the amazing volunteers and supporters of DLTV. These are the people who tirelessly make things happen behind the scenes.

Welcome back to what looks to be a “bumpy start to 2022. If DLTV can support or help you in anyway please email or ring us

BREAKING NEWS: DIGICON 2022

We had an important meeting about DigiCon last week to make some critical decisions.

The message we have overwhelmingly received from our membership is that due the ongoing complexities/tensions of COVID-19 and the uncertainty of what February will look like for schools, our members do not feel comfortable having the conference in February and would prefer us to defer to mid-year, once the COVID situation is better resolved for teachers and students.

We are devastated to have to defer DigiCon, but we feel it is the right thing to do and we don’t want to add to the stress of teachers and school leaders in term one.

I hope this makes sense to you, and if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

As always reach out if we can support you in any way. We are only ever a phone call or an email away.

Cheers

Ben Gallagher

President DLTV and ACCE
(Australian Council for Computers in Education)

VICTORIAN TEACHER SUPPLY AND DEMAND REPORT

A thought provoking article from the Age Newspaper Jan 19 2022 highlights the shortage of Digital Technologies teachers across the state.

The Age report summarises aspects of the Victorian Teacher Supply and Demand Report 2020.

Although the report indicates that supply of registered teachers will meet demand until 2026 it notes, "Government schools continue to experience recruitment challenges for some teaching roles, exacerbated by location and subject area. In secondary schools across Victoria 19 per cent of roles advertised result in no appointment. Across primary schools, languages and digital technology subjects have the highest no appointment rate. design technology and digital technology have the highest no appointment rates in secondary schools. Recruitment to STEM subjects and special education continues to be difficult". (Victorian Teacher Supply and demand Report 2020, p.15)

The charts below were taken from the report and show the non-appointment rate of teachers in Victoria (2021).

The second chart paints a similar picture across the Primary sector.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Parade College is seeking to appoint a Teacher of Digital Technologies Years 7-12. The positions also requires the teaching of VCE Software Development.
